About Mamluk Rugs

Mamluk carpets take their name from the Mamluk period in Cairo, Egypt, where this distinctive design tradition originally developed. The style is defined by geometric patterns with a central medallion, surrounded by repeating stars and polygonal forms. Today, carpets following the Mamluk design tradition are often hand-knotted in Pakistan. While the place of production differs from the historical origin, the patterns and layout remain closely aligned with the original Mamluk style. These carpets are made from wool and dyed with natural dyes, commonly using red, blue, green, and muted gold tones.
