What Defines a Ziegler Farahan Rug
Farahan is a historic weaving region in western Iran, close to Arak. Its rugs are known for fine floral motifs, small repeating patterns and carefully balanced borders.
A Ziegler Farahan takes these motifs and gives them more room. The flowers and vines are drawn larger, the field is calmer, and the colours are lighter than in a traditional Farahan. The result is more detailed than a plain Ziegler design, but still easy to live with.
The rugs in this collection are contemporary hand-knotted pieces in this tradition. You will find the origin of each rug on its product page.
02
Colours and How They Work in a Room
Most pieces have a warm ground in beige, sand, cream or ivory. Muted red, rust, dusty blue or soft grey bring out the pattern without strong contrasts.
A beige Ziegler Farahan works as a quiet base under a sofa or dining table and ties together wood, linen and natural stone. Pieces with deeper blue or red accents set a clearer accent and hide everyday wear better.

Material and Everyday Use
Ziegler Farahan rugs are knotted by hand from wool, usually on a cotton foundation. The pile is relatively short and dense, which keeps the fine pattern crisp and makes the rug easy to vacuum.
That makes these rugs a good fit for rooms you use every day: living rooms, dining areas, bedrooms and, as a Ziegler runner, hallways. For details such as knot density, size and condition, check the product page of each rug.

Ziegler Farahan or Ziegler: Which Suits You?
Both belong to the Ziegler style: large, widely spaced motifs on an open field. The difference lies in the detail and the range.
Choose a Ziegler Farahan if you want visible Persian character: finer florals, a defined border and a calm, mostly light palette. Our Ziegler subcategory is a smaller, more varied selection, including antique Ziegler Mahal rugs from Persia and large pieces of more than five metres. If you prefer dense ornament and a central medallion, our classic Persian rugs are the better match.

Choosing Your Ziegler Farahan Rug
Start with the size. Measure the room and mark the outline with tape. In a living room, at least the front legs of the sofa should rest on the rug; under a dining table, plan for about 60–70 cm on each side. Our guide on rug size and placement explains this in more detail.
Every rug in our collection is an inspected one-of-a-kind, so the photos show exactly the piece you receive. If you are unsure, our team will advise you personally, also in our Hamburg showroom by appointment. We offer free shipping within the EU, free returns and the option to pay in instalments.

Questions About Ziegler Farahan Rugs
Short answers to the questions we hear most often.
Are Ziegler Farahan rugs Persian?
The Farahan style comes from western Iran, and the historic Ziegler rugs were knotted in Persia. Contemporary Ziegler Farahan rugs are also knotted outside Iran. The origin of every rug is listed on its product page.
What is the difference between Farahan and Ziegler Farahan?
A traditional Farahan has finer, denser patterns and often stronger contrasts. A Ziegler Farahan uses the same type of motifs, but larger, more spaced out and in lighter colours.
Are Ziegler Farahan rugs suitable for everyday use?
Yes. The short, dense wool pile is hard-wearing and easy to clean, so these rugs work well in living rooms, dining rooms and hallways.
